Blood Testing

Our comprehensive Blood Work

Here at Virtue of Health we like to be thorough. For every new patient exam, in addition to thyroid and sex hormone testing we use comprehensive blood work that gives us a full understanding of your health.

What we test for:

  • CBC w/ Diff

  • Comprehensive Metabolic Panel

  • Lipid Panel

  • Hemoglobin A1C

  • C-Reactive Protein

  • Homocysteine

  • Insulin

  • Iron and IBC

  • Ferritin

  • Vitamin D, 25 hydroxy

  • B12 & Folate

  • PSA (men only)

Hormone Testing

Identify why you're experiencing a low sex drive, hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue and more

Hormones are complex. They’re produced throughout your body by nearly a dozen glands and organs, and are collectively known as the endocrine system.

When in balance they interact in an elegantly intricate formula — a mix that determines growth, development, mental function and physical function at every age. When they’re out of balance, growing evidence shows that it can cause anything from fatigue to infertility, headaches to depression, weight gain to loss of libido.

  • What we test for:

  • Estriol

  • Estrone

  • Estradiol

  • Progesterone

  • Testosterone Free

  • Testosterone Total

  • DHEA

  • TSH

  • TPO antibodies

  • Free T3

  • Free T4

  • Total T4

Heavy Metal Testing

Heavy metal exposure is on the rise. Common sources include cigarettes, seafood, rice, well water, vaccinations & dental fillings.

These toxic elements can significantly increase our risk of developing conditions like dementia, infertility, diabetes and cancer. They are also known to cause damage to the liver, kidneys and brain, as well as the cardiovascular, nervous and endocrine systems.

Essential elements are abundant, too, and only healthy when they are within optimal ranges. Nutrients like copper, iodine, magnesium, selenium and zinc are critical for enzymes that synthesize neurotransmitters and activate hormones.

Food Allergy Testing

Identify food and chemical sensitivities with the Alcat Test

The Alcat Test may help uncover which foods and other substances trigger chronic inflammation and its related health issues such as gastrointestinal, metabolic disorders and others. The Alcat Test measures cellular reactions to over 450 substances.

Medical studies using the Alcat Test to guide diet have shown significant improvement of many common symptoms. To date, the Alcat Test has helped over half a million people change their health.

How it works

A small sample of your blood is sent to the laboratory overnight. Upon receiving the sample, the blood goes through a multi-step quality assurance process. During testing, your white blood cells are tested against foods and other substances in a process known as flow cytometry and cell impedance methodology. After testing, the results are presented in a clear and easy to read color-coded format.

Neuro-transmitter Testing

Genetics, environment, chemicals and nutritional deficiencies are a few factors that can impact neurotransmitter production. Once out of balance, the nervous system begins to compensate – which, in time, can lead to neurological or psychological symptoms.

Some of the more common psychological conditions today are known to be accompanied by neurotransmitter imbalances. However, it’s also possible for individuals to present with similar symptoms yet have unique foundational imbalances. Testing helps clarify these root issues.

Common neurotransmitter-related causes of health issues often involve the following scenarios:

Anxiety & Depression

Neurotransmitter imbalances are often associated with anxiety and depression, specifically Glutamate (panic attacks), PEA, Histamine, Serotonin, as well as Epinephrine & Norepinephrine. Learn how Epinephrine & Norepinephrine affect chronic stress.

Chronic Fatigue

An imbalance between excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters can lead to persistent fatigue. Impulsivity. GABA, Dopamine and Serotonin are three chemical messengers commonly linked to disorders like ADD, ADHD & OCD.

Imbalances in Glutamate, Histamine, Dopamine, GABA and Serotonin are often linked to sleep disturbances and insomnia.

Imbalances in Serotonin, Dopamine, Norepinephrine and GABA are often involved in cases of PMDD (pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder) and severe PMS.

Nutrition Testing

The NutraEval test is a comprehensive nutritional evaluation and is designed to assist with management of symptoms related to nutritional deficiencies. This profile assesses numerous metabolic pathways and synthesizes this complex biochemistry into actionable treatment options. Critical nutrients that are functionally assessed on Genova's nutritional profiles include:
