Vitamin IVs have grown in popularity in recent years, as more people learn about the reported benefits. But is IV Therapy for everyone? In this post, I’ll answer my patients’ frequently asked questions to help you decide if IV Therapy is right for you.
What is IV Therapy?
Intravenous (IV) Nutrient Therapy is a treatment where patients receive a liquid infusion of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and amino acids directly into the bloodstream, through a small tube inserted into a vein. When vitamins and minerals are administered directly into the bloodstream, higher levels of these nutrients can be absorbed by the body, as compared to getting nutrients from food or supplements taken orally.
What’s wrong with taking supplements orally?
Nothing is wrong with taking supplements orally. However, supplements taken orally need to pass through the digestive tract before they can be absorbed by the body. And in the process of being broken down and digested, vitamins and minerals tend to lose their potency, so your body is not going to absorb them fully. Whereas, it’s estimated that with vitamin injections, your body absorbs between 90% and 100%. Additionally, higher concentrations of vitamins (like vitamin C, for example) can be administered via an IV vitamin drip without causing stomach upset.
Uses and benefits?
IV vitamin drips can be used by healthy people to maintain optimum health, and they can be used to treat more serious and chronic health conditions as well. There are different formulations of vitamins you can receive depending on your needs and conditions. IV Therapy can be especially beneficial for people with Lyme disease, cancer, fibromyalgia, or autoimmune diseases. People who aren’t able to consume enough food, or who have a condition that interferes with the absorption of nutrients may also be good candidates for IV vitamin therapy.
Some benefits of IV Therapy include:
Restores optimal vitamin levels
Cures a hangover
Healthier skin, hair, and nails
Supports neurological conditions
Increases mental clarity
Reduces stress, anxiety, and depression
Helps fight infections
Muscle recovery and hydration
Improves sexual functioning
Aids in weight loss
What to Expect
The whole process of administering IV Therapy takes about 30 to 45 minutes at our medically-supervised Sarasota wellness center.
During the process, an IV is prepared and the needle is secured into place. Then, our professionals monitor the infusion to ensure the vitamins and minerals are administered properly and safely.
At Virtue of Health, we are extremely selective about our IV mixtures. We do not use preservatives or additives, and we take measures to ensure our patients receive high-quality vitamins and minerals.
Is It Safe?
We consider IV infusions administered at our facility to be safe for all ages. Side effects from this treatment are rare, though the way individuals may react to the introduction of different nutrients can vary.
